The question of the appropriate forum for resolution of disputes always presents itself in international commercial transactions, be it financing, investments, joint ventures, or development projects across all industries. In recent years, we have also witnessed the rise of various Alternative Dispute Resolution avenues apart from the traditional domestic courts, such as Arbitration, Mediation and International Courts. With this in mind, Q.E.D. Law Corporation organised a presentation by the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) and the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) for clients and invited guests, so they could assess whether these would be appropriate forums for future international commercial transactions.
The seminar, International Commercial Transactions: Alternative Dispute Resolution Provisions, was held on 4 May 2017 at the Supreme Court of Singapore, followed by a reception at Gallery & Co. in the National Gallery.
Our clients benefited from hearing from Mr Laurence Wong (Senior Director, Business Development, of the SICC) and Mr Aloysius Goh (Deputy CEO, SIMC) expound on the various dispute resolution solutions available from the SICC and SIMC for cross-border disputes, and share their wealth of experience in their respective forums.
We would like to express our thanks to the Supreme Court of Singapore, the SICC, the SIMC, Mr Laurence Wong, Mr Aloysius Goh and all guests for giving of their time to make the event a success.

Singapore International Commercial Court
The Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) was established to provide parties with a prime destination for the resolution of international commercial disputes in a court-based forum. It offers parties an efficient dispute resolution process adjudicated by a panel of experienced judges comprising specialist commercial judges from Singapore, and International Judges from both civil law and common law traditions. The presentation highlighted the unique and flexible features and practices of the SICC that resulted in it being described as ‘arbitration in litigation’, and included a discussion on some of the cases it has heard.
The seminar was also featured in the June 2017 issue of the SICC News, which can be accessed here.
Singapore International Mediation Centre
The Singapore International Mediation Centre was launched with the support of the Singapore High Court and Ministry of Law to offer world class mediation services for cross border disputes. The presentation highlighted the advantages of mediation for complex disputes and the SIMC's unique arbitration-mediation-arbitration protocol that enables users to obtain a settlement that is enforceable in more than 150 jurisdictions.
